Jan Harris Arduini
Creating art provides me with an inner peace, and a sense of fulfillment. Jan's style leaned slightly toward realism, with subjects ranging from portraits to plants. Her medium of choice is oil paint, but I also work in pastel pencils, acrylic and watercolor. She preferred to work on a relatively small scale, but painted varying sizes of large banners and backdrops for many years.
Jan was born in Wales, Great Britain. As a child her family immigrated to Toronto, Canada. A few years later they moved to Chicago, IL where she raised a large family, teaching all six of her children at home. After moving to Las Vegas, NV in 2009, she was finally able to devote all of her time to her passion for painting.
For over 15 years Jan taught art and art history to students grades K through 12, in private schools, home school groups, and gave individual private lessons. During that time she wrote her own art curriculum, a drawing instruction book entitled Line Upon Line, which was published by Christian Liberty Academy and is still available for purchase at Amazon.com.
Jan's formal art education included Fundamentals and Life Drawing classes at the American Academy of Art in Chicago, learning how to paint watercolor portraits through North Light Academy, studying Art History at Moraine Valley Community College, attending several teacher’s workshops at the Art Institute of Chicago and oil painting classes at Palette & Chisel Academy.
From 2009-2018, Jan's work was on display at City of the World Gallery, Boulder City Art Guild Gallery, and Jana’s Red Room at the Art’s Factory in Las Vegas. She was actively involved with the Artz-to-Go program, bringing art to children in the Las Vegas Valley during it's inception. She was also a co-director of our ArtHouseLV Gallery from 2017, until she passed away suddenly, in 2018.
